Born and raised in Florida, Dr. Ivey is a graduate of Wake Forest College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry,
receiving a D.M.D. degree.
After briefly practicing dentistry in the
state of Florida, Dr. Ivey moved to Los Angeles in the early 1970s at the urging of a schoolmate from dental school who had already relocated to this city.
Dr. Ivey entered the high-profile dental practice of Dr. Stanley Vogel in the mid-1970s, where he routinely cared for the teeth of Academy Award-winning actors and actresses.
"I've always enjoyed working with entertainers because they have a
great zest for living and are lots of fun," comments Dr. Ivey. "Because they're constantly in the limelight, they need to look their best.
It was during this time spent with Dr. Vogel that he began experimenting with cosmetic dentistry as a way to dramatically improve one's appearance." The two dentists were among the first in the country to apply the then revolutionary porcelain veneers to their patients for filling gaps and straightening crooked teeth. Dr. Ivey quickly realized that he could instantly fix imperfections with this new exciting procedure.
Eventually, Dr. Ivey opened his own practice on Sunset Boulevard in
Los Angeles in the late 1980s, where he has been practicing for over 15 years, specializing in making teeth appear naturally beautiful-as if his patients were born with them. His practice focuses on enhancing the appearance of his patients through improving their teeth and making them feel proud of the way they look. He continues to adopt the latest developments in cosmetic dentistry, applying ever higher quality porcelain veneers.
Good dentistry never looks artificial is his dedicated passion.
Several years ago, he moved into the field of non-metal dentistry (i.e. fillings and crowns using composites and porcelains instead of gold and silver) to fulfill his patients' desires to make their teeth look completely natural.
Another popular procedure at his practice is teeth-bleaching, both through at-home and in-office procedures. "As you get older, your teeth become more stained, and thus require this treatment," he states. Just recently, he began relying on technology to refine the production of crowns. Thanks to more sophisticated computers and CAD systems, the materials he makes are more lifelike in appearance, in addition to being more accurately-shaped, so as to perfectly fit his patients.
Always ahead of the curve, Dr. Ivey notes that the trend to look perfectly natural is a growing one. Many of his patients are coming to exchange the metal dental work they had years ago with the newer, more natural-looking materials offered today. "When patients smile, the teeth should blend in with their facial features," he comments. This, along with seeing my patients delighted with the way they look, is my ultimate goal and satisfaction."
